Project Title: Forest Management and Sustainable Livelihood, “Aitanit, a pilot village in the West Bekaa”

Donor: The World Food Program (WFP), funded by The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Objectives:

• Building community capacity on forest management.

• Contributing to the improvement and strengthening of landscapes.

• Involving the local community in preserving and valorizing forests.

The activities:

• Restoration of sites within the landscape.

• Improving the management of the sites.

• Developing eco-tourism.

• Organizing technical training and environmental awareness.

• Implementing forestry works using various techniques.

In numbers:

• 1750 direct beneficiaries and 5000 indirect beneficiaries.

• 188 participants in more than 40 training courses.

• An eco-tourism brochure and map for the town of Aitanit.

• Planting more than 2,500 trees and 28,000 seeds.

• Pruning and cleaning 30 hectares of forests.

• Establishment and maintenance of 30 km of trails.

• Restoration of 5 hectares of abandoned land.

• Capacity building for more than 200 people.
