Project Title: BioConnect - Ensuring effective management and governance in Sites of Ecological Importance and expanding biodiversity protection in Southern Lebanon

The project targets the Shouf Biosphere Reserve, Mount Hermon Reserve, Tyre Coast Nature Reserve, 7 "Himas" and Jezzine Region.

Objectives:

• Strengthening the management and governance of environmentally important sites in the southern part of Lebanon.

• Establishment of new protected areas and OECMs for preserving landscapes and biodiversity on a larger scale in the southern region of Lebanon.

The activities:

• Designing and implementing specific and accurate monitoring and assessment plans for key biodiversity sites and the threats to them.

• Ensuring effective and fair management of sites including appropriate management plans/guidelines.

• Reducing major pressures on biodiversity.

• Enhancing the implementation of laws.

• Identifying and evaluating new appropriate protected areas and OECMs.

• Preparing management plans and guidelines for new sites.

• Improving landscape linkages between existing and new protected areas.

Duration: 45 months: February 2022 - October 2025
