Objectives:
Forestation of 100 hectares in Niha, the southern part of the Shouf Biosphere Reserve, as part of the project to plant 40 million trees through the Ministry of Agriculture and the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR), with the aim of increasing biodiversity, green spaces and securing food for birds, wild animals, and livestock, thus facing the risks of climate change and drought.
The activities:
• Preparing the infrastructure: a road to reach the site and some pathways to facilitate planting and maintenance operations.
• Selecting seedlings and planting them with the use of compost mulching with stones to reduce evaporation.
• Selection of workers based on an assessment of the social and living situation.
• A scientific test of soil quality and its ability to resist drought on an area of 2 hectares at the project site.
In numbers:
• 80,000 forest plantings
• Providing training for more than 80 workers, both male, and female, from the local population, women, foreigners, and people with special needs on agroforestry and restoration of trails.
